For a long while I have created mixed tapes in the "stop and start" tradition. In 1999 I started using a minidisc recorder/player. The minidisc is essentially the digital equivalent to magnetic cassette tapes. What I like is that I don't use a computer to edit and re-order the songs. I use a home component deck which allows me to directly manipulate the minidisc itself. There is no editing or mixing software involved. When the mix is final, I dub it digitally onto a compact disc with a digital audio cd recorder.
